Getting Software Out on Time ... for a Change!
ref: Write Up on Bob Podd for OS/2 and Data Communications experience:
 | 15 years C++ experience which began by porting the 1.5 man century
of software associated Cabletron's Network Management system to the AIX platform.
|
 | OS/2 threading experience that dates back 12 years to the MCI
project. |
 | CUIL experience 5 years ago when I hand cranked the IBM C User Interface
Library (CUIL) to effect the VIVO, video conferencing, User Interface for OS/2. This was
when IBM's "Visual Builder", the fore runner to their current Visual Age tool,
did not work. I have subsequently used Visual Age. |

Let's set up a telephone meeting (508-877-4311) to determine whether
I can help you.
OS/2 RING 3 Experience -
| Asyst - Reengineered, Designed and Merged
multiple versions of their Naked Reticle Stocker Systems' control Software used in
Integrated Fabrication Plants (FABs) worldwide. AT&T -
Designed and wrote the logging sub system for an Integrated Messaging System. It
synchronizes huge voice and electronic mail systems through a single access connection.
Data Vision - Designed and wrote the NON PM
DLL that allows Norwest banks to pop up customer signatures onto teller screens while
processing on line transactions.
Kinemetrics - Designed and wrote the PM
application used to time synchronize the world's stock markets and currency exchanges. |
IBM - Designed the notebook
control (Warp PM App) that shipped with IBM's new line of notebook computers (Thunderbird,
Eagle and Robin). It provides the visual interface for "hot and Cold" Docking.
This is a port of a Windows 3.1 Application with enhancements.
MCI - Designed and wrote the APPC interface used to control
MCI's top 10 corporate users telephone networks
Visage - Designed and wrote the Notebook
control that ships with IBM's (Microtouch) Touch Screen System.
Vivo - Wrote the User Interface to port Vivo
Software's video conferencing product to run under OS/2 WARP. Wrote C++ code directly to
the OS/2 C User Interface class Library (CUIL) as the IBM Visual Builder product was not
stable at 1 that time.

OS/2 RING 0 Experience -
| IBM - Designed and wrote the PDD
that shipped with IBM's new line of notebook computers (Thunderbird, Eagle and Robin). It
provides docking GUI access to the machine's Advanced Power Management and Plug 'N Play
BIOS. It also allows swapping devices (such as CD ROM drives) from/to the notebook while
the unit is hibernating. When the wake up event occurs, driver letters are maintained and
running applications pick up where they left off. Natural
Micro Systems - Designed and wrote the PDD used in a major telephone
carrier's speech recognition system. It allows callers to dial by speaking name of the
person they wish to reach.
SIAC - Designed and wrote the Physical Device
Driver (PDD) that processes data from an IRIG-B time standard board to allow exact time
synchronization of world wide computer systems. |
Siemens - Designed and wrote the
PDD that communicates with the Zydacron Video Conferencing System hardware. It provides
the ability to merge local video camera and received video images on a PM screen in a Wide
Area Network using Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS) as well as Local Area Network
environments. Vivo - Designed and wrote
the Virtual Device Driver (VDD) that allows High speed DOS registration and calibration
applications without modifications. This saved a major portion of a DOS -> OS/2 porting
activity for IBM 's (Microtouch) Touch screens. |
COMMUNICATIONS programming experience -
| APPC (Advanced Program to Program
Communications) programming to IBM's OS/2 Extended Edition Communication Manager Interface
for the MCI telephone company. Allows Gupta SQL data base programs running on the PS/2
servers at customers' sites to exchange information with the SQL data base programs
running on large Host computers at MCI. This "Integrated Network Management
System" allows customers to control their voice and data communications networks as
if they were their own private networks. network etal. |
Wrote ASYNC, BISYNC and SNA/SDLC data communications, Terminal
Emulators for large scale users which run on various micro computers.
Networks implemented included Blue Cross of Massachusetts, NYSE 'big board', Mellon
correspondent banks, Eastern Airlines reservations
Interfaces to the IBM ARTIC card's MLI SECS
communications co processor system. |
