Projects

Halftone Proofer

In my role as a Consultant to my Clients, I have managed Software groups to shape the Results enjoyed by my Clients. This section provides thumbnail sketches of some of these projects:

I have learned that there is no shrink wrapped software process that will help every client company. Each client engagement involves: learning what works at each client, making sure that we do not destroy what does work and then to work on areas of strength to get better results. After the first rounds of enhancing strong areas, we tackle and improve weaker areas .

A number of  my major equipment manufacturer clients have  found that just using project  scheduling software did nothing to allow them to meet project schedules. They routinely missed most every schedule date. Their customers   were never amused. I have instituted zoned, evolutionary delivery, time box   and alternative project planing methods that caused major computer  program features to be built and integrated by the companies' teams of computer programmers.

Other manufacturers of computer controlled equipment brought me in as a developer to help them write a few critical sections of their software. The project  added the dimension of managing the entire software group.  This transformation has been a growing trend in my business. Specific approaches from my past experiences have enhanced how entire groups or companies are able to perform.

A number of development projects have included my recruiting, managing and supporting a team of technical specialists.

I have become the software support arm for a number of companies. When their customers need specialized field support, I am the person who diagnosis the system needs and provides remedial or custom software to address the issues. I've arrived at this position via a number of routes. In some cases, I've just become my client's best technical resource. In other cases, my geographic location in the North Eastern United stated allows me to travel to end clients quicker and less expensively than my clients can.

I've been brought in as a technical arbitrator in situations where multiple subcontractors were feuding as to what was required of each. The solutions to these situations has involved my providing top level models produced with CASE (Computer Aided Software Engineering) Tools to draw firm boundaries between the vendors.

A number of non technical companies have brought me in to be their Software Engineering Manager while they computerized their businesses. After the vendor selection and installation, their existing structure managed the use of the automation.
